UNDERSTANDING LEARNING DISABILITIES THROUGH PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT
According to DSM-5 criteria, a Specific Learning Disorder (learning disability) is defined as difficulty learning and using academic skills. Psychoeducational assessments are a valuable tool in understanding and addressing the unique learning needs of children and teens with learning disabilities. By identifying specific challenges in areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, or executive functioning, these assessments provide a detailed roadmap to help guide educational planning and support. Early identification and targeted interventions can empower young learners to thrive in academic environments and beyond, fostering both confidence and success. At Constellation Psychology, we specialize in offering comprehensive psychoeducational assessments tailored to each individual's needs.
A learning disability is indicated by the presence of at least one of the following symptoms that have persisted for at least six months, despite the provision of interventions that target those difficulties:
Inaccurate or slow and effortful word reading (decoding)
Difficulty with written expression
Difficulty with reading rate or fluency
Difficulty mastering number sense, number facts, calculation, or math reasoning
